Natural disasters can have significant and lasting impacts on mental health. The psychological effects can range from mild stress to severe disorders, affecting individuals, families, and entire communities.
Research has shown that the mental health consequences of natural disasters can last for extended periods, with some individuals experiencing delayed onset of psychological impairments. As climate change increases the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, addressing the mental health impacts of natural disasters becomes increasingly important for public health and community resilience.
As Tensegrity Centre, we recognize the important role of clinicians in this support. And we also know that social work and other allied health practices rarely receive education in this area. As such, we offer both training opportunities and direct supervision of clinicians hoping to understand climate change as it impacts mental health.
